Personal Training is NOT CHEAP

We all know the value of having a coach.

Someone who can not only hold you accountable but give you all the tools you need to succeed. Perhaps you have an example from when you were young of how a particular coach pushed you to become better and without them you wouldn’t have known what you were capable of.

It’s a uniquely valuable role to play and one I take very seriously.

Unfortunately the vast majority of those that would call themselves “coaches” and “trainers” mire the pool of professionals to such an extent that it’s now become perfectly reasonable for most people to look at personal training as an overpriced scam. And who can blame them? If the VAST MAJORITY of trainers are charging you an arm and a leg to bury you into a puddle of sweat without any rhyme or reason as to why except to say that they gave you a “good workout”, it might even be reasonable to call it a scam. I certainly do.

I fucking HATE shitty personal trainers! They make a mockery out of what is otherwise an incredibly noble and valuable enterprise and what’s worse is that they cheat people along the way. Fuck those people!

So here’s a list of what you SHOULD ALWAYS GET as part of a personal training package and if you don’t - they’re not worth your time:

  1. A clear outline of your goals and EXACTLY what it will take to get there, including;

    • the timeline

    • your sleep habits

    • macronutrient breakdown

    • training sessions per week

    • daily energy expenditure

  2. A SCIENCE BACKED APPROACH TO TRAINING AND NUTRITION whos efficacy can easily be brought to your attention through case studies. If your trainer can’t explain to you in simple terms why you’re doing something - they’re selling you snake oil.

  3. PROGRESSION OF INTENSITY OVER TIME through things like weight, volume and exercise selection.

  4. Constant monitoring of sleep and nutrition quality. Usually as a BY WEEKLY STAND ALONE MEETING with your coach to ensure the proper attention is being paid to these crucial elements.

  5. A clear message from your trainer that they will terminate the relationship if you don’t meet your end of the bargain, ie through a weight/performance goal or habit creation. This is to demonstrate YOUR dedication and willingness to achieve your goals so that your trainer has the incentive to see you to the end.

THAT’S WHY PERSONAL TRAINING IS EXPENSIVE! It should be comprehensive, focused and oriented toward the best possible outcome. And if it’s not - they’re not worth it.
